Kru Darryl K. Phipps, aka Mr.Phipps, has one of the most powerful life stories around. He has evolved as one of the foster care community’s biggest inspirations and role models. Darryl defied the stereotypical odds for a foster kid and changed his future for the better. He spent 11 years in the foster care system until aging out at 18. Follow Darryl on his journey from being a kid in trouble to almost going to prison and rising to become a Kru in Muay Thai, a 6th Degree Master Black Belt, a 2x Martial Arts Hall of Fame Inductee, a 3x sport karate world champion, a rising actor, and the Founder & CEO of Valor Mixed Martial Arts & Fitnessity located in New York City.
Playing football, boy scouts, martial arts and going to church played the biggest parts in helping me see value in my life. Being around people that cared and constantly told me I can be whatever I want to be was crucial. All these activities gave me structure, discipline and an outlet for my anger that I was missing. When I gave out my first autograph and was in the newspapers for martial arts, I realized I was becoming a role model. I decided to change forever. My image started to mean a lot more to me and my life now had more purpose.
